Southern States Tour – route update

Day 40 Route (update)
Day 40 Route (update)

I’ve decided to skip Myrtle Beach and head straight up to the Mt. Airy, Virginia area. The Memorial Day weekend is here and I want to leave the coast to everyone else 🙂

I’m planning to camp at the Willville Motorcycle Camp through Sunday, and take day rides in that area over the weekend. I’m not sure what internet access I’ll have, so don’t worry if you don’t see any posts this weekend. I may post a photo or two to Facebook if I have a cell connection.

Below is a quick update to my schedule for the next week

(Fri) Day 4 – Savannah to Mt Airy
389 miles through South and North Carolina

(Sat) Day 5 – Day rides & camping @ Willville

(Sun) Day 6 – Day rides & camping @ Willville

(Mon) Day 7 – Mt Airy to Ashville
206 miles along Blue Ridge Parkway

(Tue) Day 8 – Asheville to Tellico Plains
345 miles including Tail of the Dragon!

(Wed) Day 9 – Tellico Plains to Atlanta
218 miles and last day in Smoky Mountains

(Thu) Day 10 – Service stop in Atlanta, then to Leeds
251 miles and ready to visit the Barber Vintage Motorcycle Museum

  1. I see you plan on visiting the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
It so happens that my dad and I rode there several years ago. It is fantastic. Multiple levels of motorcycles (and other types of vehicles) await your viewing pleasure. Plan to be there for a while to take it all in. I plan on going back soon.

  2. I’m taking a day off to see the Barber Museum. I wanted to see as much as possible. I remember Paul telling me he did a lap. Cool !! A few people have mentioned Cherohala and I look forward to riding it 🙂

    1. The Charohala is one of the most scenic roads I’ve been on. Probably because I’ve never ridden the Blue Ridge Pkwy. The wife and I stopped at Stratton Peak and built a small snowman.
